SEEMET Satellite Meteorology course 2017

SEEMET Satellite Meteorology course 2017

Start Date: 08.05.2017
End Date: 12.05.2017

The South Eastern Europe MEteorological Training (SEEMET) community has been developing a training course on satellite meteorology, with the assistance of EUMETSAT and Eumetcal. The course is addressed to weather forecasters working in national hydro-meteorological institutes of South Eastern European countries and  will be delivered in traditional classroom-mode in English with simultaneous translation to local language.

The course will be held 8-12 May 2017 in Bar, Montenegro, hosted by the Hydrometeorological Institute of Montenegro (IHMS).

The course organising committee has taken advantage of the WMO Training Development Plan (TDP) tool to design the course: this definitely ensures a recognised quality standard for the course planning phase.

A course page in the Met Learning platform will support the residence course by providing background subject material and hosting the training material delivered during the course. The page is located at http://www.met-learning.eu/course/view.php?id=93.

Course overview

This course on basic satellite meteorology for South Eastern European countries is covering basics of satellite meteorology, satellite image interpretation and satellite data/products applications in operational weather forecasting.

Training goals

The course is expected to improve the skills of operational meteorologists in interpretation and application of satellite images and products, leading to improved competencies in short-term weather forecasting. This course is thus expected to contribute to improve the capabilities  of the NHMSs of South Eastern Europe in providing weather and warning services to national stakeholders and communities.

Registration

Invitation to registration have been sent to Directors and managers of NHMSs in South Eastern Europe, who will further disseminate within their institutions.
